I'm listening to "Summertime" from your CD, "Jazz Standard Time" on your website. Really nice sound. So fat and fully yet you seem to get a nice bright clear upper register too. Really nice. What mouthpiece and horn do you play?
Oh, a website question. Who is the woman on the first page and the woman in the bikini? It just caught my attention as there was no explanation of who they are.
Thanks,
Bob Doherty

Your reccording of "Like Someone In Love" is the best tone I've ever
heard recorded...It really is stellar.
The accuracy is ridiculous...Just valves, breath, embaucher and your ear...You nailed that whole take...It's sick...That song outshines the rest...It's impeccable.
After listening to a cut by Enrico RavaI I put on your cut of "Like Someone In Love" and I breathed a deep sigh and said to myself, "ahh...now there we go..."
Keep it up. J

Dan We got *the BLUE AFTER HOURS and JAZZ STANDARD TIME. Played them this morning. They are perfect in two ways, the music and the CDs which , in my view, rank with the best in the science of recording . We have an audio system (It contains Carver equipment with a vacuum tube) that will punish a CD if it is not perfect. These will be my test recordings for all my audio tryouts. Monny sends her thanks to you for great music. We have been dancing to this stuff for 65 years and this keeps us dancing. The best to you. BRYCE

Review excerpt from "SWINGIN' & SINGIN'
Featuring Ellen Murray, vocalist.
Particularly outstanding is the masterful trumpet solo performed by Dan Jacobs, who wittingly weaves in and out of the traditional harmonic structure of the song and has created some witty playfulness and mischief here. His solo is quite vibrant, breathing freshness, yet keeping true to the the fun and ''cool'' tradition of this timeless 1926 Ray Henderson classic.

Dan,
Wow. As musicians we enjoy compliments, naturally but when it is from one who is a master, well it is a different story. You will be able to appreciate this analogy.
Long ago and far away at the KoKo bar in E. Lansing when we were both playing with Severe Hands, we were visited by a few members of a band who had just finished a gig on campus. The premo timekeeper of the group introduced himself over a warm handshake and later uttered a phrase that still is and always will be a treasured recollection of mine. I’ll be the first to admit that I didn’t feel up to it, but if he caught me on a good night ... anyway, the highest compliment in all of my years on stage was from this man. “Stay with it, he said. Stay with it, cause I’m tellin’ you (here it comes) you – are a contendin’ drumma”.
The band who had just left the MSU Student Union was Weather Report and, as God is my witness, this was from the lips of musician, percussionist and drummer par excel lance, Eric Kamau Gravatt as I sat at a table with him and Wayne Shorter. They said that Miroslav had been there but had something else going and Zawinul had gone straight to bed. They actually only caught the last set as it was. Drunkard that I was, I always closed the joint down but the rest of the guys had already left and never knew they were there. It was a brief moment but man, I had a hell of a time getting a hat to fit me for quite a while. Of course the next day when I attempted to tell the story they instantly dismissed it as bullshit so I never brought it up again. I mean it’s not like he offered me a gig or anything, it was just a really meaningful compliment from an authentic cat.
Which brings me to the point: I went to your website and read several of the writings there. Excellent. Do more!!!
The analogy holds for writing and any skilled discipline, I’m sure. Coming from one whose writing chops are as refined as yours means that this compliment “will be a treasured recollection” also. Thank you.
Be well,
A
(editors note: Al Albaitis is a gifted drummer - we played together 30 years ago - he now is a celebrated firefighter a veteran of 25 years in Las Vegas. He is also a successful artist and an accomplished author of many short stories. Check out his website at: http://www.fireart.com)
